Refrigeration repairs

Refrigeration only. Sub-Zero builds no ranges and no cooktops, so nothing on this site pretends otherwise. Every page below covers one class of cabinet and the faults it actually presents with.

An open built-in refrigerator with hand tools laid out on a folded towel on the kitchen floor beside it.
Six kinds of call, one cabinet type. The tools on the towel are the same every time.
01

Built-in refrigerator repair

The fresh-food side runs its own compressor and its own evaporator, so a warm refrigerator sitting above a freezer that still holds 0°F is a specific fault with a short list of causes.

Presenting symptoms
  • Fresh food compartment warm while the freezer still holds 0°F
  • Fresh food reading above 48°F against a 38°F setpoint
  • SERVICE indicator flashing with a service code on the display
02

Freezer column repair

A freezer column is a single-purpose cabinet with one sealed system and no fresh-food side to borrow air from, so frost, drain ice and defrost faults present differently than they do in an over-under unit.

Presenting symptoms
  • Freezer running above 0°F while the paired refrigerator column is fine
  • Heavy frost on the rear evaporator cover or on packaged food
  • Ice sheet forming across the floor of the lower basket
03

Wine storage repair

Wine cabinets hold a narrow band far above freezing, so the failures that matter are drift, humidity and light rather than the frost and defrost problems that dominate food refrigeration.

Presenting symptoms
  • Upper and lower zones converging on the same temperature
  • A zone reading several degrees above its setpoint
  • Condensation forming on the inside of the glass door
04

Ice maker repair

Ice production has a temperature floor, a fill volume and a harvest cycle, and the three of them fail in ways that look identical from the front of the cabinet and are not.

Presenting symptoms
  • No ice at all while the freezer still reads close to 0°F
  • Cubes coming out thin, hollow or cloudy
  • Ice maker overfilling and freezing the mold into a solid block
05

Undercounter refrigeration repair

Undercounter units live in the hottest, most airflow-restricted position in the kitchen, and most of their faults trace back to the grille, the drain or an ambient temperature the cabinet was never rated for.

Presenting symptoms
  • Cabinet running warm in summer but recovering in cooler months
  • Compressor running continuously in an island or outdoor installation
  • Water pooling on the floor of the cabinet or on the kitchen floor
06

Refrigerator drawer repair

Drawer units carry their whole seal on a moving part, so alignment, runner wear and gasket compression cause more warm-drawer calls than any refrigeration component does.

Presenting symptoms
  • One drawer holding temperature while the other runs warm
  • Drawer front standing proud of the cabinetry on one side
  • Drawer dragging, grinding or refusing to close the last inch
How a visit runs

Measured first, quoted second, ordered third.

  1. Both compartments are read against both setpoints before anything is touched.
  2. The condenser is located for that series and its restriction is assessed, not guessed.
  3. Any stored service code is recorded as found. We do not clear codes before the diagnosis is complete.
  4. The failing sealed system is identified before a single component is condemned.
  5. A written estimate is handed over. Nothing is ordered and no work starts until it is approved.

$80 flat diagnostic, credited toward the repair. Written estimate before any part is ordered or any work begins.

Genuine OEM parts. No aftermarket substitutions on sealed-system or control components.

Board fit is serial-dependent, so we do not publish control-board part numbers as definitive. The serial comes off the plate at the visit.
