The 32256 ZIP takes in Deerwood and the country club neighbourhoods around it — Deercreek, Glen Kernan, Pablo Creek Reserve — and it is, by some distance, the densest concentration of large built-in refrigeration installations in our service area.
That single fact shapes every visit here, because a column installation is not one appliance with two doors. It is two appliances that happen to share a cabinetry run.
Column pairs and wine
Deerwood-area kitchens tend to be specified rather than bought. Instead of a single over-and-under cabinet, the common arrangement is a refrigerator column beside a freezer column, frequently with a 400 Series wine cabinet in the same run or a wine unit in a separate bar. Undercounter refrigerators and ice makers appear in islands and in butler’s pantries.
Three things follow from that.
Columns are separate appliances. Each has its own model plate, its own serial, its own sealed system and its own warranty clock. One column can need a compressor while the one immediately beside it runs untouched for another decade. We diagnose and quote them separately, and we ask which cabinet is misbehaving before we arrive.
Condenser location is not uniform across a run. A legacy Built-In BI or Classic CL cabinet is top-mounted behind a flip-up grille. Designer DEC and DET and legacy Integrated IT and IC columns are bottom-mounted behind the base grille. In a kitchen with both, homeowners clean one and never find the other.
Wine cabinets add a third layout. The 430 is top-mounted; the 427 is bottom-mounted. Undercounter wine breathes at the front base grille.
Access, panels and weight
The other consequence of a specified kitchen is that the refrigeration is integrated into cabinetry rather than dropped into a gap.
Custom door panels on a column are heavy, and they are hung on the appliance rather than the cabinetry. A door that has stopped seating, dropped at the corner or stopped self-closing is very often a hinge or an adjustment carrying more panel weight than it was set for, not a failed door. That is a repair, and it is a much smaller one than people fear.
Servicing a flush installation means removing trim, panels and sometimes the mounting hardware that ties the cabinet to the surrounding run before anything can move. On a tall column in a tight run, that is a two-person job and it is one of the reasons we ask for the model and the configuration when you book rather than discovering it in your kitchen.
Clearances matter in the same way. These cabinets are specified to the sixteenth of an inch, and a cabinetry change made years after the appliance went in — a deeper toe kick, an added trim piece, a wine cabinet slid into a run that was never sized for it — can partly obstruct a base grille. A cabinet that has slowly stopped keeping up in a kitchen where nothing has been touched for a decade is a different problem from one that started after the joiner left.
Ice needs the freezer cold enough
A large Deerwood kitchen often has two ice sources: the ice maker in the freezer column and a dedicated undercounter machine. When one of them stops, temperature is the first thing we read, not the last.
Production requires the freezer at or below 5°F, and 0°F is the recommended number. A freezer column drifting to 8°F will keep food frozen and quietly stop harvesting, and the call gets booked as an ice maker fault. The undercounter machine usually shows a problem first, because its duty cycle is higher and its grille is easier to obstruct.
If the compartment is at setpoint, the next question is fill volume rather than the module itself. Thin and hollow cubes are a supply problem; a full mold that will not release is a harvest problem. They are different repairs and they are separated by measurement, not by guessing.
Cabinet age in this ZIP
Deerwood proper is older housing with kitchens that have been renovated at least once. Glen Kernan and Pablo Creek Reserve skew newer. Across the ZIP we see the full range: 600 and 700 Series cabinets from the 1996 to 2009 run still working in unrenovated kitchens, legacy BI cabinets from 2008 to 2022 in the majority of houses, and Classic and Designer in recent work.
For cabinets in the six to twelve year band, the manufacturer’s twelve-year limited sealed-system coverage matters. The covered part is still supplied, parts only, obtained from the manufacturer directly, with the homeowner paying labor. On a column pair where one cabinet has a failed compressor, that frequently decides whether the run gets repaired or torn out.
Storms and boards
Roughly sixty-eight thunderstorm days a year put transients on residential circuits here as everywhere in this metro. Control faults on cabinets past eight years are routine, and they usually appear weeks after the weather rather than during it. We do not publish board part numbers as definitive because fit is serial-dependent, and the serial plate is read on site.
