Palencia and the northern 32095 addresses are mid-2000s onward kitchens with a fairly uniform installed base; the 32084 waterfront and island houses run older, more varied and fully exposed to salt air. Marsh Creek, Davis Shores, Camachee Island and the addresses along the Matanzas and the Intracoastal sit in salt aerosol year-round, and aluminium condenser fin stock and hinge hardware corrode accordingly. Parts of the historic city have housing old enough that the cabinet opening is the constraint rather than the appliance: undersized openings, non-standard depths and frequently no dedicated 20-amp circuit at the refrigeration position. What we check first here - Condenser fin condition, not just debris. Chloride in the air corrodes aluminium fin stock and hinge hardware, and a corroded coil cannot be cleaned back to health. - The opening and the supply. Pre-1940 kitchens have undersized cabinet openings and often no dedicated 20-amp circuit, so fit and power are confirmed before any replacement is discussed. - Compartment temperatures against setpoint, both circuits, before anything is dismantled. A warm fresh-food compartment over a freezer still holding 0°F is one sealed system, not the cabinet. - Any code left showing on the display. Around 68 thunderstorm days a year and the multi-day outages this coast has seen make control faults common, and a cleared code costs us the record of when the excursion began. - The model and serial plate. Board fit and several sealed-system parts are serial-dependent, and the serial also decides whether the cabinet is still inside the manufacturer's twelve-year limited sealed-system window. St. Augustine is not one service area, it is two, and they behave differently enough that we treat them separately on the phone. ## Palencia and 32095 — a uniform installed base Palencia and the northern St. Augustine addresses in 32095 were mostly fitted out from the mid-2000s onward. The consequence is a fairly uniform installed base: legacy Built-In BI cabinets, Designer and Integrated columns, and a good number of undercounter units in islands and outdoor kitchens. Uniform age means uniform warranty position, and it is the first thing worth checking before anything else is discussed. A cabinet fitted in 2015 is now inside the manufacturer’s twelve-year limited sealed-system coverage and outside everything else. In years six through twelve the covered sealed-system part is still supplied, parts only, obtained from the manufacturer directly, and an independent shop may perform the work with the homeowner paying labor. On a compressor or evaporator failure that is the difference between a repair and a replacement, so we ask for the serial before the visit. It also means the routine faults arrive in waves. Condenser fan motors, defrost components and door hardware on a batch of cabinets installed within a few years of each other tend to reach the end of their service life within a few years of each other, and a neighbour’s repair is a reasonable predictor of your own. Condenser location follows the series rather than the neighbourhood. Classic CL and legacy Built-In BI cabinets, and the 430 wine unit, are top-mounted behind a flip-up grille. Designer, legacy Integrated, the 700 Series and the 427 are bottom-mounted. In a kitchen with both a column pair and an undercounter unit, that is three grilles in three places. ## The waterfront, 32084 — the salt What that part of the city has instead is chloride in the air. Marsh Creek, Davis Shores, Camachee Island and the addresses along the Matanzas and the Intracoastal all sit in salt aerosol year-round. Aluminium condenser fin stock reacts to it: the fins go soft and powdery, bloom white at the edges, and close up. Unlike dust, that cannot be cleaned off. A corroded condenser has permanently lost surface area, and it raises head pressure and run time exactly as a blocked one does. Hinge hardware, fasteners and grille frames corrode alongside it. On a ten- or fifteen-year-old coastal cabinet, a seized hinge and a degraded condenser are frequently the entire repair. We work these addresses to a six-month condenser interval rather than the six-to-twelve we use inland, and we assess fin condition rather than just clearing debris. Where fin stock is genuinely gone we say so, because continuing to clean a corroded coil is not a repair. ## Older kitchens in the historic city Parts of St. Augustine have housing stock old enough that the cabinet opening is the constraint, not the appliance. Kitchens carved into early-twentieth-century houses have undersized openings, non-standard depths and, frequently, no dedicated 20-amp circuit at the refrigeration position. That matters before a replacement is ordered, not after. A modern full-size built-in has specific width, depth and clearance requirements, and a cabinet that fits a 1920s opening is often the older, shallower unit already in place. Where we can keep a working legacy cabinet alive in one of those kitchens, that is usually the right answer, and it is why we are careful about repair-versus-replace advice on this side of town. The electrical supply deserves its own sentence. A cabinet sharing a branch circuit with countertop outlets will nuisance-trip under a kettle or a toaster load, and the homeowner reports it as a refrigeration fault. That is an electrician’s job rather than ours, and we will tell you when that is what we have found rather than selling you a part. ## Which cabinets, and what that means for parts Palencia runs to legacy Built-In BI cabinets and Designer and Integrated columns. The waterfront and island houses run older and more varied, including 600 and 700 Series cabinets from the 1996 to 2009 period that are outside all manufacturer coverage. Parts availability is not uniform across that range. Current series components are ordinarily stocked; components for the older cabinets are not always, and some are serial-dependent within the same nominal model. We do not publish control-board part numbers as definitive for exactly that reason, and the plate is read on site before anything is ordered. On a 28-mile drive we would rather confirm the part on the first visit than guess and return twice. ## Storms This coast takes the full run of a Northeast Florida storm season, and parts of the region have been without power for days after named storms. Extended outages matter to refrigeration less during the outage than after it: when power returns, both sealed systems restart into a warm cabinet and run at full duty for hours, and marginal boards, start components and fan motors fail under that load. If your cabinet has behaved differently since an outage, say so when you book. ## Drive and booking Downtown St. Augustine is about 28 road miles from our Fruit Cove base, roughly 40 minutes on I-95 and SR-16. Palencia is closer. Both are inside our 40 road mile service area; addresses south of the city may not be, and we will say so honestly rather than accept a booking we should not.
